Brandon Wint

Brandon Wint is an Ontario born spoken word artist, poet and teacher whose work emphasises love and empathy. With increased focus on the impacts and implications of colonialism and capitalism, he shares his poetic vision through world making, world altering and world breaking. A two-time winner of national poetry slam championships, he has been a presenter of a Tedx conference and published Canada’s first anthology of contemporary Black poetry – The Great Black North.

Cobra Collins (She/Her) is a Métis poet and Spoken Word artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary) – Treaty 7 Territory. A seasoned performer whose work reflects a belief in the power of words to incite change, Cobra has, amongst many achievements, been the captain of the Calgary 2015 and 2016 Slam Team, run Expressions, an open mic night for emerging artists and had her poem ‘Collide’ made into public art in a tunnel in Confederation Park.

Ian Keteku

Ian Keteku is a poet, teacher and community activist and the 2010 World Poetry Slam champion. His work draws spiritual inspiration from his Ghanaian heritage and the storytelling traditions of Africa which he uses to spread his message of peace, action and the connection we all share in the human experience. Published in multiple languages, he also teaches creative writing and community activism at the University of Toronto.

Jillian Christmas is a queer afro-caribbean writer living on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam people (Vancouver, BC.) who uses her art to raise awareness of oppression. A former Artistic Director of Versəs Festival of Words she is also a teacher of her work delivering workshops throughout Canada on editing, writing, poetry and writing collaboratively. She was also the first Canadian to perform at the finals of the Women of the World Poetry Slam.

Lucia Misch is a writer, performer and facilitator who lives on unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh territory in East Vancouver. In her role as a teacher she strives to help others achieve their creative and personal power.

Nisha Patel is an award-winning queer poet, artist and public speaker whose work is highly personal exploring themes of identity, race, the immigrant experience, gender and sexuality. She is the current Poet Laureate for the City of Edmonton, Executive Director of the Edmonton Poetry Festival and was the 2019 Canadian Individual Slam Champion. She also performs public speaking on politics and mental health and provides mentorship and coaching on writing, performance and storytelling.

Ruby Singh is a multi-hyphenate artist living on the lands of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh and Tsleil-Waututh (Vancouver BC) who creates art through poetry, photography, film, fine art and music. In his work he is inspired by cross-cultural influences with common themes of identity, justice, myth and imagination. He has also worked as a curator for the Indian Summer Festival and the City of Vancouver and runs workshops with universities, schools, youth prisons and community groups throughout Canada.
