Doing business in ICT
Our Consul-General Mario Ste-Marie interviews Michael Shepherd, Managing Director and Vice-President of Consulting Services at CGI which gives us some background on why this company perceives Australia as an attractive market with regard to the ICT sector.
Watch the video here.
CGI is a global IT and PBS services firm headquartered in Montreal, being the largest ICT firm in Canada and the 6th largest in the world. CGI opened their Australia office as a result of the acquisition of America Management Systems in 2004.
CGI’s largest market share is in the energy and utility sectors, but other key sectors include telecommunications, finance and government. Mr. Shepherd points out the advantages for an ICT company to invest in Australia.
Investing in Australia contributed greatly to the company’s global delivery model. Also, Australia has a strategic market with a strong banking system and a government aiming for a budget surplus which ICT solutions can help to bring about.
There are some key opportunities for Canadian ICT firms here, mainly with regard to one of the most important infrastructure projects, the National Broadband Network.
Mr. Shepherd advices any Canadian firm doing business in Australia to get in touch with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service which can put you in touch with the right contacts and assists you with understanding the market.
